]]> Compassion Over Killing has been doing a lot of restaurant outreach, working with great restaurants around DC to get Vegan items on the menu. This month COK’s feature restaurant is Founding Farmers.

Opened in September 2008, Founding Farmers offers farm-inspired American true food and drink in a modern, casual and eco-friendly setting. From our modern farmhouse, our menus for breakfast, lunch, and dinner include homemade and ’scratch-made’ traditional American classics inspired by the heartland.

Founding Farmers is located three blocks West of the White House at 1924 Pennsylvania Ave., N.W. Washington, D.C. You can download their new Vegan menu here.

I have not had a chance to visit yet, but the menu looks great and I will defiantly be making a trip their soon. If you have been let us know what you think!

]]> So apparently there are a few street vendors downtown selling Tofurky Veggie Dogs. I rarely if ever eat from one of the carts, I am not saying they are bad, just not my thing. But if you are looking for a quick and CHEAP (only a dollar, is that right?) bite and your near one go check it out and let them know your happy to see them have a Vegan option and they should think about getting more items.

]]> DC Vegan’s very own Amber McDonald is featured in an article on BrightestYoungThings.com titled “What’s In Your Fridge“.

Things you should know before we start: Amber McDonald is a DC Vegan who became so about a year and a half ago after working with the Humane Society and reading about the similarities in emotions between dogs and cows. Viewing dairy farms equivalent to puppy mills, she started gradually cutting animal products out of her diet, beginning with dairy and beef, then pork, chicken, and finishing off with fish as the last one to go. Amber has recently drafted the legislation for a resolution to declare DC Meatless Mondays, working on getting restaurants and eventually the DC public school system to eliminate meat consumption on Mondays…CONTINUE READING

]]> Since Great Sage will have the honor of being the first to offer the new award winning Tofurky Pizzas, they thought it would be fun to throw a party and call it VeganFest! Which will aslo be a charity event for Compassion Over Killing.

$20 advance entrance fee ($25 at the door) and that all goes to COK. For the $20/$25 you will receive free pizza, cake, and coconut ice cream (and some other vegan treats to be named later). There will be a cash bar. There will be a band from 7:30-9:30, also to be named later.

]]> This Sunday, May 23, head to Cafe Green for a fundraiser to benefit the Louisiana Gulf Response Involvement Team (GRIT), a coordinated effort between several non-profit and governmental conservation and environmental organizations that are “combining efforts and experience to implement an effective volunteer response and make a real difference in the BP Oil Spill recovery efforts.”

Cafe Green will offer waffles with your choice of Earth Balance (margarine) and Maple Syrup, Peanut Butter, Strawberries, Blueberries, Mangos, Chocolate Sauce, Raw Agave Nectar, Vegan Whipped Topping, Pineapples, Cinnamon Apples, Bananas, or Candied Walnuts. Ten percent of all waffle sales will directly benefit GRIT!

The Cafe Green fundraiser is part of Global Vegan Waffle Party 2010. Now in its third year, Global Vegan Waffle Party strives “to bring people together and raise awareness about serious issues in a fun, lighthearted, delicious, and non-threatening way.” This year, cities as far flung as Tokyo, Edinburgh, Korat (Thailand) and Athens will be participating under the theme “Good for Many Species and Our Planet.”
