Taking Action for Animals, a conference for animal advocacy put on by the Humane Society of the United States, starts today!
Friday has a couple optional workshops and an evening welcome reception. The conference goes into full force on Saturday July 24.
Learn how you can tap into your skills to help animals. Each day, there are workshops based around the following tracks: Building Skills, Learning the Issues, Public Policy, and Reaching Out. You can choose the one that is most fitting for what you want to learn or accomplish in your own life. Monday is lobby day, when you can join with others to ask your elected officials to pass laws that help, not hurt, animals.
Be sure to pick up the special limited coupon from Cafe Green, DC’s only all-vegan, full-service restaurant, that will be available at Compassion Over Killing’s exhibit table in the Exhibitor’s Hall.
The conference is at the Washington Marriott Wardman Park. Of course, all the food served is vegan.
You can still register – go to www.takingactionforanimals.org ($165 for full conference starting with the welcome reception tonight, or $115 for just one day).

Should our dog and cat companions be vegan as well? This debate seems to be never ending in the vegan world because being the animal lovers that we are, we want what is best for our furry friends. I haven’t had to come to a conclusion because for now, I have a bird who loves to eat tofu (Seriously). However, I plan to adopt a dog in the near future. So, what should I do? From doing the research, it seems that dogs can receive the appropriate nutrients from a vegan diet since they are omnivorous. But, cats are carnivores and the transition over to a vegan diet must be slow and made with caution. If cats don’t have taurine in their diet then they could go blind or suffer heart disease.
