This Sunday, join us from 6:30pm -9:00pm at Bread & Brew, for a special edition of Vegan Drinks. Bread & Brew has kindly agreed to open just for us and to show the Miss USA competition on its TVs so that we can root fellow vegan Miss DC, MacKenzie Green, on to victory!
MacKenzie isn’t your typical beauty queen. In fact, the Miss DC pageant was her very first time in a pageant. Prior to becoming Miss DC, MacKenzie competed at least a dozen times in the Junior Olympics, was featured in Swimming World, and ran a marathon.
“Everyone wanted to know what would be the next thing I did,” said MacKenzie in a recent interview. “The next thing we know, I’m Miss DC and headed to Vegas.”
In the quest to become Miss DC, MacKenzie also became a vegan. Inspired by Alicia Silverstone’s book, The Kind Life, MacKenzie says she “dove head first in to the vegan pool….for the first time in a long time I felt comfortable and beautiful in my own skin.”
MacKenzie has made childhood nutrition her platform and, as part of this, wrote an open letter in support of city-wide meat-free Mondays. MacKenzie’s support was surely influential in the City Council’s recent passage of the ceremonial resolution declaring Mondays “meat free” in the District.
