Whose Shoes?

Just wanted to pass along the DC Groupon I got today for custom-designed shoes from Eidia. The deal (today only!!) is for half off the normal rate of $120, although I’m sure there’s fine print you need to read. I clicked over out of curiosity and saw that these shoes are vegan! Now you fashionistas and aspiring designers can create your own pair of heels to match the fabulous togs you picked up at the recent Vaute Couture sample sale.

From the FAQ:

Vegan in Furs

Trend AlertAs the leaves change and the weather turns chilly, my inbox has been inundated with fashion advice on the winter’s it item: fur. When it comes to fur, there’s no shortage of faux, and the taste makers are happy to tell you that “this isn’t your mother’s faux fur. Gone are the days of ultra-synthetic, seemingly flammable pieces that were typical of this category even a year ago.”

As vegans, we’re no strangers to faking it: from the kitchen to the closet to the bedroom…oh my! But faux fur makes me stop short. It’s no secret that the fashion industry has a history of mislabeling real fur, but even if we attempt to make certain it’s fake, what about those who admire, and are inspired by, our wardrobe? When we rock our fake fur-trimmed coats or faux fur water bottle (really?), do we risk inadvertently encouraging someone to put on real fur? Do we keep our fingers crossed that our clothing will inspire questions about our cruelty-free choices? Or, do our obligations as vegans end with the personal, with what winds up on our own plates and our own backs? What do you think?

Fashion is my Girlfriend

Fashion is my Girlfriend is a blog dedicated to vegan fashion, started by Kandace Levy, a 22 yr old senior at University of Maryland. Even though the blog was started less than a year ago, Kandace is already breaking down that stigma that vegans aren’t stylish (Then again, what’s stylish about wearing a dead animal?) I sat down with her for an interview and she explained how easy it is to be vegan and look like a million dollars.

After the interview, Kandace & I enjoyed a delicious meal at Berwyn Cafe.

After the interview, Kandace & I enjoyed a delicious meal at Berwyn Cafe.

M: How long have you been vegan and why did you choose veganism?

K: I’ve been vegan for a little over three years, I started sophomore year of college. Actually, I was a straight up carnivore, as many species as I could get on a bun that’s what I wanted to eat. Literally, in one night I became vegan. I stumbled upon goveg.com and I made a couple conclusions. The main revelation that I had was recognizing where my food came, realizing a hamburger was a cow as opposed to food.

M: There’s nothing attractive about eating flesh. So, how did Fashion is my Girlfriend come about?

K: Partly because I would read other fashion blogs and there is a lot that I wanted to see that I wasn’t. I wanted to start a blog that incorporated all of the cool things I saw from other blogs but with more ethical responsibly and also more environmental responsibility. I wanted to start a blog to inform people on just how easy it is to find amazing pieces and not have to harm animals in the process.

VegList.net

Well this is a new project of mine, Classified ads for the Veg Community! Yes its a knock-off of Craigslist with a spin. Being vegan I thought it would be cool to have a place to buy and sell things from other vegans or vegetarians. But its not just a place to buy and sell stuff we have a Jobs, Services, Housing, and Resumes. We are still fine tuning our categories, so if you have any thought on this I would love to here them or if you have any other suggestions,  just leave a comment below. One of the other things that makes us different from other classified sites is that we donate 2% of our profits to a different non-profit quarterly, since we have just started we have obviously not donated anything yet, but we will be mixing it up with different types of non-profits. So how do we make money you ask, well we will be charging a very small fee to post in various categories Jobs, Services, and Housing, the For Sale section will always be free. We are still in the Beta stage and continuously making adjustments but we are fully functional. And right now posting a Ad in any category is FREE we plan on keeping this open for a little while maybe a month or so, till things get going.

follow us on twitter > http://twitter.com/veglist

there is now a community section where you can post events, news, voluntter opportunites, etc… (its FREE!)
