About
DC Vegan is a not for profit site/blog (not an offical 501c3) dedicated to spreading and supporting Veganism and Animal Rights. We work with oganizations such as Compassion Over Killing, VSDC, & FARM. We also love working with other veg busineses and Animal Rights Organizations in the DC area, if you are interested in working together, lets talk!
Who is behind DC Vegan?
Tim Meinberg {founder, developer, & writer}My name is Tim Meinberg, I am the founder, developer, and writer of DC Vegan. I started DC Vegan back in 2006 after my wife and I did a little stint on the Appalachian Trail. We hiked the trail and raised money for NEVS. After we got off I wanted to continue to contribute to the Vegan / Animal Rights community so I started DC Vegan. It was a slow start, since I am not a great writer, but I eventually got some great people to help contribute posts. We have continued to grow, the launch of DC Vegan Drinks in January of 2009 was a big success and helped promote DC Vegan. There is a lot more I would love to do with DC Vegan and we will slowly get there. I am always looking for people who would like to volunteer there time and help wright posts, organize events, etc...

Michelle Carr {writer & outreach coordinator}
Michelle is currently a senior at University of Maryland-College Park, majoring in sociology. She has been vegetarian since 2006 (after seeing a truck of baby chicks drive past) and vegan since 2008 (For all of the many reasons). Michelle is a part of the Peta2 Street Team in DC. Michelle would love to adopt a rescue dog but because finishing her degree is her main goal, her (very cute) parakeet will suffice for now. In her spare time she enjoys screenwriting, traveling and watching any film that Christian Bale has graced the presence of. She lives in Silver Spring.
Denise Shrader {writer}
Denise been vegan for just about a year. It’s made her a better cook and she loves to experiment with food. She loves to live green and if she ever catches you abusing and/or hurting any animals she will promptly run you over with her car.
Sonya Harway {writer}
Sonya has been vegetarian for over 15 years and vegan for a good chunk of that. As convincing as her rebellious and angsty reasons were for cutting out animal products as a teenager, now she cites a combination of moral, health, and environmental factors for her vegan lifestyle. When she’s not concocting cruelty-free treats, she teaches music and composes. And when she’s not doing that, she enjoys cycling, spending time with her dog, and traveling.
Amber McDonald {writer}
After spending years claiming to floss with bacon and being a general thorn in the side of her vegetarian and vegan friends, Amber came across a short article comparing the intelligence of cows to that of dogs. The owner of a (kind, devious, brilliant, all-around amazing, and semi-famous) dog, she immediately cut out beef and dairy and began to research what she had long been criticizing. Thus, a vegan was born. When not doting on her canine companion, Amber enjoys breaking expensive electronics in new and inventive ways, standing left/walking right, and developing a serious case of Blackberry thumb. She dreams someday of being a lawyer for the Humane Society. Or, a pirate.
Erica Meier {writer}
Erica Meier is the executive director of Compassion Over Killing (COK), a non-profit animal advocacy organization based in Washington, D.C. Since 1995, COK has worked to end the abuse of animals in agriculture through undercover investigations, public outreach, litigation, and other advocacy programs. Before working at COK, Erica spent four years as an animal control officer in D.C., rescuing sick, injured, and homeless animals as well as enforcing animal protection laws. She’s been vegan for more than 15 years, and currently lives in Takoma Park, Md. with her feline family, Riche and Emma.
