When I hear about someone buying a pot-bellied pig nowadays, I roll my eyes and get that very annoyed feeling at the ignorance of an adult who looks at something cute, tiny, and cuddly and doesn’t have the frame of mind to recognize that one day very soon, it will become a seventy-five pound hulking creature. And then they won’t want it anymore.
Gwendolyn already is that adult pig. She has been living in her home for twenty years now and all of the sudden, in what is most likely the last year of Gwendolyn’s life, PG County wants to take her away from her loving family on a stupid technicality. Pat Brown, her guardian, is a responsible, dedicated guardian who isn’t going down without a fight.
Please visit Gwendolyn’s Facebook page and pass it on to everyone you know. Hopefully, we can support Pat Brown enough so that she is allowed to keep her beloved family member in the last years of its life!

There are a lot of people who don’t research enough on potbellied pigs before they get them, but for those who do, potbellied pigs can be splendid pets. You just have to be proactive enough to learn and understand their natures and commit yourself to that pet.
Farmhand–That’s just what makes this so sad!! She is obviously such a dedicated, caring person. I really hope the “authorities” don’t punish her for that. I agree they are such great creatures and wish more people would take time to learn about them…
I’ve written the PG county feedback site with the following:
‘Please grandfather in this geriatric pig.
The argument to remove this animal to it’s “natural” surroundings is bunk even in the opinion of the director of the largest pig refuge, who is quoted as follows:
“…if a pig Gwendolyn’s age were removed from familiar surroundings, it would probably get depressed, stop eating and die.” , “Any pig hates change; Senior pigs, usually over 8 or 9 years of age, they literally die of a broken heart.”
Forcibly removing this animal in it’s last stage of life serves no one and is markedly cruel.’
Please post this story everywhere you can, especially if you’re a local, and be sure to write in to PG county; it only takes a few minutes.
