Its never been proven, but aluminum cookware frequently comes up in investigations and conversations about about Alzheimer’s disease.

Many area stores like MOMs and TPSS sell stainless steel water bottles. Those were encouraged by many health experts last year over plastic water bottles which depending on the grade of plastic, leech chemicals into the user.

Aluminum takes large amounts of electricity to refine with the side effects being more pollution to produce aluminum products. That power drain is one of the reasons emphasis on reusing aluminum has been so strong.

Stainless steel or just asking for a glass of tap water may be greener.

    Sigg user here:

In response to the issues about aluminum as a material for food containers. With the Sigg, there is a really great natural epoxy-like lining that is seriously impervious to smells and tastes. So the aluminum exposure thing is not something I’d worry about.

It’s likely that people are getting tons more exposure from their deodorant.

All that said, the next bottle I’m going to try will be a “Kleen Kanteen” which is steel. I’m going with that because I cannot find 1.5L Siggs anymore, anywhere.

Both Sigg and Kleen Kanteen are both likely still quite green as compared to disposables so either way is good as far as I’m concerned.

Kleen Kanteen does co-branding as well:

What is the name of the epoxy?

  5. I like those Klean Kanteen bottles and would love to get DC Vegan on them, but it looks like you have to put up some cash first and DC Vegan is funded by whats in my pocket, which aint much.

Good link on the Sigg liner issue. Though we’ve beaten the crap out of ours, the liner inside looks like day one, and I couldn’t be happier.

Shame about the minimums on branded Kleen Kanteens though.
